While images of thunderous waves crashing against rocky cliffs dominate Acadia National Park’s maritime landscape, this popular Maine national park also boasts a solitary sandy beach known as Sand Beach. It’s a swimmable haven from mid-June through early September, provided you can brave water temperatures in the 50s. Stretching for about 2 1/2 football fields in length, this frequently visited stretch of sand lies at the beginning of the coastal section of Park Loop Road. From this area, several of the park’s finest hiking trails commence, including The Beehive, Great Head Trail, and Ocean Path.
