The Luxury Camping Brand’s Expansion
Luxury camping company AutoCamp is embarking on an exciting new venture to broaden its offerings and make them more accessible to travelers. Their innovative approach involves launching a subsidiary brand, Field Station, which focuses on renovating and revitalizing existing hotels in popular outdoor destinations.
New Affordable Accommodations in Moab
In spring 2023, AutoCamp’s Field Station will introduce a new and more budget-friendly hotel located just outside Moab, Utah. This move is set to redefine the way travelers experience outdoor destinations, providing comfortable and affordable lodging options.
According to a press release, Field Station has ambitious plans beyond Moab. In 2023, they are scheduled to open additional locations in Joshua Tree, and in 2024, they will expand to Lake Tahoe, California, offering travelers even more opportunities to experience the great outdoors.
AutoCamp’s Current Offerings
AutoCamp is already known for its exceptional accommodations, including Airstreams and luxury tents, available in various scenic locations such as Cape Cod, the Catskills, Joshua Tree, Sonoma, and Yosemite. In 2023, they are also planning to open new sites in Asheville, North Carolina, Texas’s Hill Country, and near Sequoia and Zion National Parks.
These high-end and Instagram-worthy Airstreams and luxury camping sites typically range from $250 to $1,000 per night. However, Field Station aims to make outdoor experiences more accessible, with room rates starting at just $159.
Empowering Outdoor Exploration
Julie Saunders, Chief Marketing Officer of both AutoCamp and Field Station, emphasizes their mission to empower people to explore the outdoors. She states, “We believe the world would be a better place if more people could experience the outdoors, so we are on a mission to empower all people to get outside.”
Through Field Station, they aspire to provide greater comfort, knowledge, and support, making outdoor adventures accessible to everyone. This includes offering educational resources, expert guides, and readily available rental equipment.
Design and Sustainability Focus
Field Station locations prioritize functionality and adventure, embracing a “ScanDustrial” design inspired by Scandinavian industrial design. Rooms are designed with extra storage space for gear, and some even feature hanging portaledges from Black Diamond.
Moreover, sustainability is a core focus for Field Station. Saunders explains, “We know that travel and outdoor recreation have a big impact on the environment.” Their approach involves upcycling and renovating existing lodges and motels instead of creating new structures, reducing landfill waste. They also plan to implement sustainability best practices in maintenance, services, products, and supplies used across their properties.
Expanding Access to the Outdoors
Ultimately, Field Station’s goal is to encourage more people to embrace the outdoors. Saunders adds, “Our team has always been wildly passionate about getting people outdoors together and helping them inspire a love for the environment.”
With the success of AutoCamp as a source of inspiration, Field Station aims to provide a more affordable outdoor experience with the same adventurous spirit. They plan to grow nationwide, strategically locating their sites near national parks and other outdoor hubs, making outdoor adventures more accessible to all.
Saunders concludes, “We believe there is significant opportunity in river towns, mountain towns, road biking meccas, surf locations, mountain bike destinations, adventure race venues, fishing spots, national parks, state parks, and national forests. We have identified a robust growth pipeline of more than 150 locations nationwide.”
